Island Line Trailhead to Burlington Information Center| 11 Miles | Half Day

Updated: Jul 17, 2018

From the Island line Trailhead off Martin Rd in South Hero, you travel on an old railroad bed that is level with a grade that makes all Rail to Trail rides easy and so enjoyable.

On this dedicated bike path one quickly pass through the wooded shoreline and come to the grand causeway that crosses Lake Champlain.

Some of the distinctive highlights: a flat, easy grade all the way to Burlington Waterfront, beautiful wooded shorelines, with beautiful vistas of New York’s Adirondack Mountains on the horizon, interesting stops and beaches along the way, and a bike ferry connecting the two sections of the causeway where boats can go through.

The path is paved except for the causeway which a is fine-packed stone dust. Young and older bikers alike will enjoy this trail. The route does wind through some clearly marked residential streets, that use separate lanes for bikes.
